Approach 1: Revising the MRP of the Item (recommended 1st by GoI)

This is basically revising the MRP and RSP price of the item. Examples in case of apparel:

  • For Items with MRP between 1050 and 2625: GST differential is calculated and discounted on the Items MRP to derive to a new MRP/RSP.

  • For Items with MRP greater than 2625: GST differential is calculated and added on the Items MRP to derive to a new MRP/RSP.

In this approach, operationally you will have to re-barcode the products lying in warehouse, stores and retailers. There is an understanding of keeping dual barcodes on the products in such cases to demonstrate both old MRP and new MRP - however, conclusion on this needs to be discussed with your consultants.

  • For Ginesys POS and Zwing POS (connected to Ginesys ERP): MRP/RSP update in Item Master in Ginesys ERP shall auto flow to POS system.

  • For Zwing POS (standalone): MRP/RSP update in Item Master needs to be done in Zwing Console.

Approach 2: Revising only the RSP of the Item

In POS working, there are two types of price, i.e., MRP = Maximum Retail Price and RSP = Retail Selling Price. Some of the brands are changing the RSP with the discounted price for the Items with MRP between 1050 and 2625 to pass on the benefit to the customer.

In this case, you shall have to print both MRP as well as RSP in the bill to demonstrate price change due to GST as per the latest notifications being circulated. For the same, you might have to create a support ticket to get this information printed in the invoice.

  • For Ginesys POS and Zwing POS (connected to Ginesys ERP): RSP update in Item Master in Ginesys ERP shall auto flow to POS system.

  • For Zwing POS (standalone): RSP update in Item Master needs to be done in Zwing Console.

Additionally, the RSP of the Item can also be updated through Price Control (in case of Ginesys POS) / Price Book (in case of Zwing) with effective date of 22-Sep-25. This will lower the impact of last minute changes requirement.

Approach 3: Providing additional promo

In this case, there is no change being done in Item pricing, there is another way to pass on discount to the customers, i.e., by implementing additional promotion.

Steps as example for apparel:

  1. Define an assortment with MRP range 1050 and 2625.

  2. Go to promo definition and apply an additional promotion with 6.25% (7/112*100) discount.

  3. Assign and apply this promotion to all stores effective from 22-Sep-25.

Do take caution while taking this route as you are uncertain about when to stop this promotion as newer stock within same MRP range shouldn’t get any additional discount.

Approach 3 (additional promo) works only with Ginesys POS. It doesn’t work with Zwing POS.
In case you want to give additional discount within the current promotion running (if any), then you need to add the calculated discount to the existing promotion. For example, in case you are running 50% discount, then you might add the differential GST % to the 50% and make it 53% or similar to that as per your calculations.

Online (E-commerce)

When you are selling goods online, customers are following the below mentioned practices across different platforms:

Platform

Strategy

Marketplace

The selling price (not MRP) of the product is being changed to accommodate the price difference as there is no provision with the marketplaces to provide additional discount.

Webstore

Most are revising the selling price (not MRP) of the product as done in marketplace.

Some are providing discount in the order.

Also, some of the brands are using a strategy to reduce price on 20th or 21st itself and hold orders to dispatch on or after 22-Sep-25 only. Ensuring all previous priced orders are processed within 21st.

Browntape handling:

Since the order price is finalized and received from the marketplace, Browntape acts as a consumer in such cases. So the order rate is not changed.

Browntape has no role in the item rate being charged to the customer.

However, some may want to get the MRP printed as well in the invoice in case of webstores so that the MRP and selling price difference can be shown to the customer. Reach out to support in case you want the MRP and transaction rate both to be printed.
